Little taste of the ordering system our area's not-for-profits will use to access healthy food via the LCFC!

March may herald the beginning of spring, but it’s also “year-end” time for most not-for-profits and that usually means a lot of scrambling to fulfill grant requirements. As it turned out, we here at The Local CFC were particularly busy! At the beginning of March we were lucky enough to receive a grant via the Perth District Health Unit that would enable us to fulfill a promise we made to our Food Distribution Centre’s not-for-profit clients, specifically that we would have an easy-to-use online system for them to do their ordering. As a bonus, it would also allow me to develop a foolproof (fingers crossed!) system to track and manage our inventory of good healthful food in the warehouse. The only hitch… we had to do it in 30 days!! Luckily we were able to tap into some of the brightest minds in Stratford, namely John Matthews (who doubles as our social media/web guru) and Barry Payne: a talented musician and friend to the food community (he is coordinating all the music for this year’s Savour Stratford Festival) who also happens to possess a truly extraordinary mind for creating logistics systems.  After working many late nights together (and the occasional weekend) we finally presented the system at the most recent packed meeting of the Perth County Food Security Coalition and it was received with much enthusiasm! We will now be sorting out the finer details and addressing the concerns that were brought up by the group, but all in all we consider this a great accomplishment. Much thanks to John and Barry for all their help. With this system in place, it will greatly streamline our operations once we are open (stay tuned to find out when that will be!!!)
