A very generous community member invited me last week to help him harvest sour cherries from a tree in his backyard.  The tree was producing far more fruit than he was able to use himself and we were happy to help put the excess to use.  After a few hours of picking we had enough cherries to serve this cake to 100 people at our Monday night meal as well as a summer pudding for the 60+ Lunch and still had some left over to stash away in the freezer for those long winter months when summer fruit seems so far away.
