Volunteer
The Local needs volunteer support in the following areas:
- Kitchen, including meal preparation, serving meals, dish washing, and clean-up
- Market, including stocking shelves, market set-up, cashiers, inventory tracking and clean-up
- Garden, including planting, weeding, harvesting, soil maintenance, preparing produce for sale, and crop planning
- Kitchen Skills classes, including supporting children’s cooking classes
- Administration, including donor relations, data entry, social media support, delivering flyers, and event support
- Maintenance, including painting, deep cleaning, and heavy lifting
- Fundraising and Special Events, including planning, organizing and executing fundraising events, and event photography
Volunteer Onboarding Process
We welcome all those interested in volunteering and ask that you send an email to volunteers@thelocalcfc.org to start the process, which looks like this:
Fill out registration form
When you email us you will be sent a link to the Community Volunteer Registration Form where you can share your volunteer interests and availability.
Book a Talk & Tour to get familiar with the Local
Our volunteer coordinator will reach out to book a Talk & Tour. Talk and Tours happen during community meals/market so you can get a good sense of what happens at The Local CFC . After the Talk & Tour, you can confirm your interest, review your registration form and make any necessary changes. Then, we can book a trial shift in your area of interest.
Trial Shift
A trial shift is a chance for you to meet the staff and other volunteers you will be working alongside. It is your chance to see if this is the right fit for you and if you would like to commit to regular volunteering in that job. After your Trial Shift, you can confirm your interest in continuing.
New Volunteer Orientation
Each of these Orientation sessions features a 30-minute orientation followed by a break and a 45-minute learning session that will include active volunteers. It is a chance for you to meet more of our volunteers and dive deeper into what volunteering at The Local is all about.
After your New Volunteer Orientation, you sign the paperwork and start making an impact!
Group Volunteering
The Local often gets requests for groups such as businesses, service clubs and other groups to volunteer. Because it’s challenging to have large groups come in and volunteer, we instead ask these groups to apply their time and passion to run a fundraising event for us. The Local would provide information, promote the event, and have a presence at the event. If you or your group is interested in this, please email us at volunteers@thelocalcfc.org.
We also support people in doing community service hours for school or probationary requirements. However, all volunteers must go through the onboarding process, this process can count toward their required hours.
